A long-time favourite with the British, the Sirata Beach is a mix of 382 bedrooms and studios, the latter providing the additional convenience of a kitchenette, and many of the rooms offering either balcony or private patio. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are available without leaving the hotel, with one of three venues serving anything from filet mignon to Peruvian chilli and lime scallops, and you’ll always be able to grab a bite somewhere when it’s not a full blown meal that is needed. Relax at one of two beachfront bars, take a dip in any of the three pools or simply step out onto the white sands of St Petersburg beach, literally right on your doorstep.
A perennial favourite, the Sheraton Sand Key is situated just over the causeway from Clearwater Beach, and from any one of its 390 well furnished rooms, a step out onto your private balcony will reveal why this stretch of beach is so highly acclaimed. Inside the hotel, dining options are a-plenty, with ‘Rusty’s Bistro’ combining the tastes of the Caribbean with Florida’s southwest, or alternatively, salads, sandwiches, burgers and a whole range of drinks – soft or otherwise – are available at ‘Island Grille’ or ‘Mainstay Tavern’. Adult and children’s pools, kids’ playground, tennis and fitness centre are just some of the daytime activities on offer whilst out at sea, you could try a spot of fishing or take a boat out for the day.
There are few finer spots along St Petersburg beach than at Tradewinds, a 159-room Gulf facing resort hotel, where the marine-life theme is evident throughout. All rooms come with coffee maker, microwave and fridge, with additional space on offer in the 1 and 2-bedroom suites with kitchenette. Outdoor breakfasts and poolside lunches are served at ‘Guy’s Gulfside Grill’, ‘RumFish Grill’ is attracting attention with its new menu, and the ‘SandBox’ beach lounge offers speciality drinks and live entertainment. Beach and water activities abound, with two swimming pools, children’s play area, tennis and,
of course, the soft beach sands. What we love at Tradewinds is the distinctly laid-back atmosphere, nowhere more than when gently swaying in one of the hammocks or wooden swings resting amongst the beachfront pines.
The beachfront town of Indian Shores lies between Clearwater and St Petersburg and is home to Barefoot Beach Resort, a waterfront collection of upscale 1 and 2-bedroom apartments.
These accommodations, each with garden or Intracoastal waterway views, are great for families, with a kitchen equipped with stove, microwave, dishwasher and full-size fridge, and the option of a second bedroom to give you that extra space and privacy.
The outdoor pool will invite you for a dip, whilst the beach is literally across the road, and Barefoot’s friendly staff can assist in arranging all manner of water sports. Just steps away, ‘Salt Rock Grill’ serves great steaks, seafood, salads and a wide selection of drinks, and a short drive will take you to the many shops, restaurants and attractions of the area.
