The boutique Triton hotel enjoys a fabulous location in the heart of San Francisco, and has managed to embrace the city’s unique spirit within its vibrant décor, which is immediately noticeable on entering the striking split-level lobby. The 140 guest rooms and suites have been stylishly decorated and furnished with fine linens, and each room affords great views over nearby Chinatown. Guests don’t have to stray far to find good food, with classic French bistro fare served at ‘Café de la Presse’ to one side of the hotel, whilst on the other, ‘Harlen Place’ is open for breakfast, brunch and dinner. If you want to work up an appetite before eating, spend some time in the state-of- the-art fitness centre, and if you crave a spot of pampering, the hotel offers lavish in-room spa treatments.
Less than an hour's drive from San Francisco and the Bay Area, the upscale River Terrace Inn lies in the heart of the Napa Valley Wine Country, and provides the perfect retreat from city life. The 105 luxurious guest rooms, facing either the village or the river, are kitted out with designer amenities, all have tea/coffee maker, mini-bar, and fridge, and many feature a private balcony. River Valley Inn’s newest dining experience is ‘ALBA’, where the award-winning chef is proud to present seasonal plates using local products and natural ingredients. The Inn’s bar hosts a ‘Happy Hour’ between 4-6pm five nights a week, with live music of an evening over the weekend. When it’s time to explore the region, there are some 200 wineries within an easy drive through the delightful Napa countryside.
For those wishing to base themselves in the heart of San Francisco, the Hilton is a great choice, with a location close to the shops, restaurants and bars of bustling Union Square, and in the heart of the Theatre District. The historic three-tower hotel houses 1,908 rooms and suites, each with en-suite bathroom, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, and mini-bar. There are plenty of dining options, with ‘Herb ‘N’ Kitchen’ offering the choice to eat in or take away, ‘Urban Tavern’ the spot for breakfast, and the lobby bar the perfect place to relax at the end of the day. If you feel you need to keep up the exercise while you’re away, an outdoor pool and health club are on hand, and if you want to stretch your legs, Chinatown and Nob Hill are about a mile away.
Perched atop a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean and Sonoma coastline, 15 miles north of the coastal town of Jenner and a short scenic drive from Bodega Bay lies the rugged, atmospheric and unique Timber Cove Inn. The majority of the 46 cosy rooms boast breathtaking ocean views, whilst some overlook the forest to the rear, and many feature a fireplace and spa bath. ‘Coast Kitchen’ serves plates featuring organic fruits and vegetables, Sonoma cheeses, farm raised chicken and seasonal seafood, with its wines drawing heavily from the local vineyards, and local spirits such as cucumber vodka worth a little tipple. A wealth of leisure activities are available just a short distance from the hotel, whether it be kayaking amongst seals on the Russian River, exploring Sonoma wine country or walking in one of the nearby state parks.
